The daughter is an Argentinean of Scottish, English and Argentinean heritage. Her mother's ancestry is Spanish as well as English. Taylor-Joy is one of the five children. Four were born to Taylor's father's previous marriage. Family resided in Buenos Aires up until Taylor-Joy aged 6 and later moving to Victoria district of London. According to Taylor-Joy, this relocation was difficult and she refused to master English with the intention of returning to Argentina. Hill House became her school preference after she was ordered to move schools. Then she attended Queen's Gate School in which she studied Ballet and participated in school productions. She dropped out of high school when she was 16 in order in order to concentrate on her acting career. Taylor-Joy was always aware that she wanted to become an actor. She achieved this when Sarah Doukas founder of Storm Management, offered Taylor-Joy a modelling job.
